You deserve therapy for kink/BDSM where your therapist won’t see your kink as the problem. Imagine what it’d be like, for example, if your therapist could incorporate recommendations about talking with your dom/me to help manage your anxiety in your scenes. Or maybe you just want couples therapy or individual therapy for reasons unrelated to kink/BDSM, but you just want to be able to be honest about what you did this past weekend and not have the therapist hijack the session by trying to understand your trip to the dungeon or play party. Dating but want help in therapy about how to update your FL or Recon profile without having to explain to your therapist what that is?
Here are some ways the therapy for kink/BDSM will be different with me:
- I know all the acronyms. RACK? SSC? ABDL? CBT? (the one that isn’t cognitive behavioral therapy), I got you. Okay, I’m gonna say almost all, because our community is constantly creative and wonderful, and every once in a while, I catch a new one.
- I can help you explore nuanced questions like, “Is this BDSM relationship abusive?” without knee-jerk reactions of “Yes,” when you mention a good flogging. Some kink/BDSM relationships are abusive. Some vanilla relationships are abusive. We’ve got to get past how you play to answer the question.
- I will look for the ways that your kinks might enhance and improve our work by looking at how your mental health or attachment challenges are showing up in your play . . . just like I would when looking for how a vanilla client’s mental health issues show up in their bedroom.
- I can hear about your play and celebrate when it supports your well-being.
- I have lived experience of navigating the intensity of top/sub drop and can differentiate it from mental health problems (and help you prevent or recover from it).
- If you are new to kink, I can help you navigate the community safely.
- If you are in the SF Bay Area, I am familiar with both straight and gay kink communities and can make recommendations to support your community engagement.
You shouldn’t have to pay to explain your Dominant/sub role or hide that nuance in your relationship. As your therapist, I am ready to hit the ground running with you, just like I would be with the vanilla couple next door. I’ve received training in therapy for kink/BDSM clients from many sex positive sources, including the American Association for Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists and The Alternative Sexual Health Research Alliance. I’m also an out kinkster myself.
I have experience successfully providing therapy for kink/BDSM to individuals and couples. Whether the presenting issue has something to do with kink or whether we need to set your BDSM practices aside to focus on another issue entirely, I will meet you where you are to help you focus on the issues that you need help with. I believe that we can stay focused on goals, make every session count, and laugh along the way.
But don’t take my word for it, Contact Me and see if you feel more at ease in a first phone call.
