Therapy Integrating Sexuality and Spirituality

Therapy Integrating Sexuality and Spirituality

If you have any of the following challenges, you may benefit from a therapist skilled at integrating sexuality and spirituality:

  • Sex with your partner gives you an experience of the divine, but out of the bedroom, the relationship has problems.
  • Spiritually committed to your partner, but sex feels flat and empty.
  • On a spiritual path and struggling to figure out how to weave the red thread of sexuality into the fabric of your spiritual belief and practice.
  • Do you enjoy sexual behaviors or fantasies that your faith prohibits?

I recognize that finding a way to express sexuality and love the divine can be a confusing process. Many religious traditions had difficulty integrating sexuality and spirituality, and we’ve inherited those traditions. To find a guide through the process, you need the right therapist.

Experience Relevant to Integrating Sexuality and Spirituality

Professional

  • Undergraduate major in religious studies. A phenomenological and anthropological perspective on the many ways spirituality shows up in human experience.
  • One year of a Master’s in Pastoral Counseling program at Loyola University of Chicago. Though I did not complete the degree, I received training on the intersection of spirituality and sexuality while here.
  • Master’s Degree in Psychology and Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from The Institute of Transpersonal Psychology (now under new leadership, and renamed Sofia University). This accredited institute was dedicated to studying the intersection of spirituality and psychology.
  • I have taken 2 graduate courses specifically dedicated to understanding the integration of spirituality and sexuality.

Personal

  • Lived in India as a young man and lived with Muslim and Hindu families while on the Rotary International Youth Exchange program. I experienced the joys and wisdom of different religious perspectives.
  • Many spontaneous (nonpsychedelic induced) spiritual experiences.
  • High-desire person who grew up Roman Catholic.
